Aquaponics System for Life!

Author: admin  |  Category: Aquaponics

Aquaponics is the worlds most sustainable food production system!

What is Aquaponics? Well, Aquaponics is a System that mutually benefits both environments by integrating aquaculture (fish farming) and Hydroponics ( growing of plants without soil).

Aquaponics Systems do not use chemicals, and require only 10% of the water normally needed for regular farming. The waste from the fish tanks is treated with natural bacteria that converts the waste, largely ammonia, first to nitrite and then to nitrate. The fish waste absorbed by plants is pumped to a bio-filter system as a nutrient solution for the growing plants.

The only regular farming activity needed is feeding the fish. Both systems compliment each other in this “Closed” System. Only a small amount of water is needed periodically to replace water that gets evaporated over time.

Aquaponics is very low maintenance and consumes little energy to maintain. Its Pure, Clean, Natural and Organic!

And the best part is, your plants grow 50% faster!

can you please help me make delicious fried tilapia?

Author: admin  |  Category: Tilapia

I tried frying some a couple of weeks ago and while it did taste really good I know I didn't do it justice. I used bread crumbs mixed with eggs and some salt and pepper for the batter. But would using flour as the batter make it taste good? And also I used a regular pan for frying and it took awhile for the fish to cook so I was wondering if I could cook the tilapia first THEN fry it?

I have used this method to fry my tilapia a few times and it has worked well for me thus far! I usually us a mix of bread crumbs and cornmeal together with whatever seasonings you prefer (I usually buy a powdered fish seasoning and then chop up some fresh parsely very fine and add to my mix) and dreadge the tilapia in a mixture of eggs and milk then in the dry mix very very well and use a non stick frying pan coated with enough extra virgin olive oil to cover the bottom. Cooked on medium heat, around 6 on the stove top setting. Its also wonderful served with some lime juice on the side to squeeze over the fish after its fried. I hope this works well for you.

What's with all the tilapia people are eating?

Author: admin  |  Category: Tilapia

Have you seen pictures of this fish? Has to be in the same family as the carp — and I'd never eat one of those. The tilapia spend their lives swimming thru the muddy muck at the bottom of lakes and rivers…

Well, I did like tilapia until you told me that tidbit of information. Yuck!

BTW, I just went to Wikipedia and learned that they are omnivorous. They feed not only on plants, but on dead organic matter and fecal matter.

I will not be eating the tilapia I bought the other day!

I'm in Year 8 at school,
pal2k_2001. Thanks for your great answer.

Here is a good 10 lesson journal of hydroponics. It should give you some great insights, step, by step.
